Freedom? by jak22 Freedom? by jak22
Is anybody really free?

Edit:
As NotAFake noticed - the last line is a Bill Hicks quote.
I guess that line inspired the whole thing.
If you've never listened to him before I suggest it!

Amazing! Great Idea! Looking for images that'll describe Freedom and get people's attention on the idea of Being Free & Freedom, to promote the International Day of Freedom I just launched. I still need to define an action plan, but I'll post on the Facebook page a picture/image once in a while with a message. So people get the idea, share the image, bringing more focus to this day of Freedom until next year. Of course the artist will be mention by name or with a link to his page/profile. We can even do a vote later on so 1 wins the vote : ) If you're interested to share your image, let me know :) thanks!!!

it's so true. I have this game I play when I watch presidential speeches and what-not, it's sort of like bingo... whenever they say a term like, "health care reform," or "terrorism," I cross it off, and when I get five in a row I yell "BULLSHIT!"

It's very, very, very, fun.

Brilliant, but you wrote "we" twice in the last sentance. Not that it makes the writing anything less, I just thought I'd point it out.

Not to be an asshole or anything, but I feel Bill Hicks deserves a little credit here. That was his big line, "We are free to do as we tell you".

FDR said that freedom is freedom of speech and prayer, and from want and fear...I do wonder whether freedom can only come by treading on another person's or culture's rights.

I hope not, that seems like no freedom at all.
But it certainly seems like that sometimes.

but isn't freedom relative? do you really want murderers and rapists and pedophiles wandering the streets? sometimes oppression is better for the whole. you have to consider that there are billions of people in this world and there are always going to be power hungry assholes or well-intentioned wrong-doers. these people need to exist. they may not be the best at what they do, or even good at it, but without them there would be mass chaos. do you want to live in a world completely devoid of laws and rules? it seems blindly optimistic to put it that way, you know? everyone wants freedom but at what cost? are you willing to live in a world where you have no protection just so you can be free? it doesn't seem worth it to me. of course, this is your opinion, and i just wanted to present another side of the coin. sorry for the long comment.

Don't be sorry, it would be rather hypocritical for me to quash the alternative view ;).
It's more a question of too many rules and controls.
Too much fear, too much suspicion and too much hate.
It feels like we're returning to the days of the Reds under the Bed. Everyone must be constantly supervised and checked and doubted.
It's a difficult balance, but I think the cost of freedom shouldn't be as high as it seems to be at the moment.

But! But!... freedom isn't free. o_o

And if people were completely free, what could stop their "freedom" to rob/hurt/kill whoever they wanted?

Cute, otherwise.

Being free for me means doing whatever I like, as long as in doing so I don't impinge on anyone elses' choices.
Obviously it's easier said than done ;).

Any way to make your words bigger? What you have said is so well put that they should fill the whole flag. It would also be easier to read and a more boisterous way to express your feelings. Great job! :)

Theoretically, not even the Gods...but then, as Mr P so rightly said, if you set someone free they end up making themselves chains.

You need to make the small print more...official. Helvettica, perhaps to celebrate it's 50th aniverssairie.
